About Us Deriving from the original name of its servers, The BattleGrounds, in 1998 Clan [BGE] was formed. In 1999 the clan migrated from playing Quake to Tribes. During that year the clan established its first server and grew to around 15 clan members. Come 2000 and 2001, the clan decided to migrate over to Counter-Strike and EverQuest. Counter-Strike encountered a problem with the Half-Life server listing system having a HUGE bias against Cable modem addresses starting with 24.x.x.x preventing anyone from ever joining the server. In 2002, a clan structure was made and the recruiting began. It was determined that the Clan can and should move into multiple games and so it did. After months of reading, reviewing and planning, the year 2003 came around and the website was updated to have a nice message board system and the Charter was drafted and formalized. A membership application system was also developed and put in place. In 2003, we had begun to grow and had a goal set of around 100 members by the end of the year. We had formed a few game teams and had plans for many more. At this time we had developed a Battlefield 1942 Game Team, a Rainbow Six: Raven-Shield Game Team and a Unreal Tournament Game Team. We tried a few other games but there was not enough activity to maintain them. As the membership grew so did the Clan leaderships team of officers. In May, the Clan had its first Officer Conference call. During the fall season, we created a Desert Combat team, which was lead by a firefighter from California. In November, the Executive Council voted to create a Call Of Duty and Medal Of Honor Game Team. In 2004, the Battlefield and Call of Duty teams ended their run, while the Rainbow Six and Unreal teams stayed stronger than ever. During this time, the Unreal team started competition in Proving Grounds, taking first before the ladder closed, and Teamwarfare League. The Executive Council at this time also approved several updates to the Clan Constitution and started to host our own game servers in Dallas, TX. Late in 2004, we founded another EverQuest team that had up to 40 active members. From 2004 through the end of 2005, the Unreal Tournament teams went strong with active competing teams in 6v6 Onslaught, as well as Instagib 3v3 and 5v5 CTF. As 2005 started to wind down, several members of the Unreal team started playing Battlefield 2. Interest to start a competitive team rose and the re-introduction of the [BGE] Battlefield team commenced. From late 2005 through early 2006, the team played in Teamwarfare League’s 5v5 Infantry ladder. Due to bugs that hindered the competitive experience, the team took a small break and resumed competition during mid 2006 playing through until late 2006. 2006 also saw the birth of The Volks Hammer 69th Rifle Division, a clan merger headed up by Mysticwolf. This was [BGE]’s Red Orchestra competitive team. From mid 2006 through early 2007, this team played in Teamwarfare League’s 8v8 and 5v5 North American ladder. In 2007, the clan took a break from competitive gaming, with most of the active members anticipating the release of Unreal Tournament 3. Though the clan was no longer competitively active, the members actively scrimmed in Unreal Tournament 2004, as well as continued to play together in friendly games. With the release of Unreal Tournament 3, the clan saw a growth in membership and active recruiting began to re-birth the Unreal Tournament team. Early into 2008, the clan moved to a new website domain and a reorganization in clan leadership developed. In February of 2008, the clan saw its ten year anniversary and is currently still going strong. |
