Tips To Help Your DM Game

            So Unreal
Tournament 3 has been out for a bit, and you load into your favorite DM or TDM
servers. You’ve had your energy drink,
your psyched to own some noobs, you load in, and you get owned like a noob. With rockets flying at you left and right,
you bounce from side to side and try to get a weapon to fight back but the only
thing you have succeeded in is moving another pile of your own gore to another
location. “Screw this game! They’re lucky I couldn’t get some rockets!”
and you log off to go play a 24/7 Suspense so you can sit back and snipe. What could have gone wrong?

            Unreal
Tournament has been acclaimed for some time to be a defining FPS game, offering
fast action and intense play. This type
of experience is enticing to the new player but can be degrading at the same
time once they enter a server. So how
does the new player get better with their DM game? Well I am not a “pro” DM’er with an stretch
of the imagination, but I have played the UT series for many years and can
offer some words of advice for the new player.
This write up may be a little long, but you may get some good advice
that you may or may not have already realized.

             First, take
time to learn how the weapons work! Now
you maybe saying to yourself, “I know the rocket fires and blows sh*t up,” but
what situations warrant the rocket best and where do you aim? Do you aim for the body? Do you bounce the
feet and setup for another bounce? The
rocket is just an example I am using for looking into the applications of the
weapon that are past the obvious.
Several of the weapons have distinct uses that when combined right can
lead to a deadly force. With a little
time, you can become more then adept at the uses and start developing your
shot.

             Second,
stop entering full 16 man servers playing Biohazard all day! Now don’t get me wrong; it’s loads of fun
getting gunslinger, biohazard, and jackhammer in the same map, but the only
thing you are really getting from this is the slight possibility of learning
how to dodge a close range Bio shot or Hammer chaser. One of the keys to a great DM game is
composure and that can be difficult to develop in a map that is big as your
elementary school gym and filled with 15 pre-pubescent gamers shooting their
load towards your head. Maybe try playing some instant action? “Blasphemy!” you say? I know, it can be a bit boring killing bots
but if your goal is really to work on your shot, then turn up the difficulty a
little bit and make it harder. Now you
do not have to do this forever; after all UT is a great Multiplayer game, but
with instant action you can create your own environment to learn in. The advantages of instant action can be
learning where weapons are located, start getting comfortable with you shot,
learn fast routes to map locations, and start learning timings of pickups such
as Double Damage and Shield pickups. Try
memorizing one item’s time in instant action and when you get to the point
where you are picking up that item the second it spawns all the time, start
adding another thing to monitor, and so on.
You can find several sites that tell exactly the timings of these items,
just search around a bit.

            Lastly, start playing the
people. You have gotten comfortable with
the game aspects; now it is time to get comfortable with the real time
situations that arise. Find a low number
DM or TDM server and start playing the people.
This is the time to hone the situational game. “He ran backwards around the corner firing
rockets. Do I chase or do I hold
back?” This is just one example of a
situation. For all you know, the player
just baited you to walk around that corner and eat a huge Shock Combo so he can
come over and tea bag you. If it
happens, try to hold back getting mad. This
goes back to the importance of composure.
You will get your butt handed to you at times, which is inevitable. The best you can do is biting the bullet and
try again. This can be difficult, but
look at the whole reason why you started this adventure. Before you started practicing, you were
getting beat by players who had practiced and were better. Its time to play those players, get beat and
understand why you are getting beat.
Then just reverse those techniques.
Sometimes you have to slow yourself down in this fast paced game to
really understand why you are getting beat.

Now you have gotten a few tips on
how to really turn that frustrating game you were playing into a game of fun
and fragging. Now will these techniques
make you pro over night? No way in
Hell! If they did I wouldn’t have time
to write this, but these techniques are to server as a guideline for the
budding player in you. Enjoy the game,
that’s why you bought it to begin with.
Once you develop some fairly basic techniques in conception, you will
become a player that can run with the big dogs.
It may take some time, but just keep at it. Good Games, Good Luck, Have Fun, and we’ll
see you on the Battlegrounds soon.

BGE XBOX 360 Captain Interview

Tell us a little bit about yourself:

Well my name is Chris" ferociouspy" Rife on both the PC and Xbox Live. I have been playing videogames since I was a young boy. My dad’s objective of showing love was buying me whatever I wanted, and so my first game was pong on Atari. So as the years passed I have always been into gaming and often wonder what my life would have been like if I had never touched a console. Not to say I regret it or I am sore with my dad, but just how life could have been different.

Have you always played console games or have you ever tired PC:

Yes and No. Pc gaming has never really been my favorite platform except for the occasional solitaire game. I have never been too serious with PC gaming, just too many buttons and controls.

So tell us about the gaming clan you’re in:

Well I have been with this clan since the middle part of 2006 before they restructured to what we have now. Some of the previous members have already made the move to the new site and I’m sure others will follow as the days go by. Also we always welcome new members that want to come in and enjoy the experience.

What types of goals do you look to achieve with the clan:

Well as with the former clan base, when all was said and done before the previous upper management dis-banned the clan; I was the team captain for all games dealing with console. Now that I am with the new reformed clan, I look forward to working with the new management to help me help the team. Now, I realize that people are not always going to be available to participate, whether be it that they have responsibility to family, job and whatever they have in there personal life, Real Life, Game Life. It should and will be my goal to make sure team members get to enjoy their experience and follow any and all clan rules while on the forums and while at play.

I would love to see the organization as a whole flourish and be around for many more years, not just one certain team. I welcome any and all advice that is given to me, whether, be it upper management and/or other clan members. I’m never going to be one of those people that just thinks he knows everything about gaming. Nobody is perfect and I’m no exception. Hell, there is more than likely someone out there that is going to hand me my ass when I’m playing competitively or just for fun. I would like to see the console team branch out into several sub-game teams for all the different consoles out there; after all this is a multi-gaming clan.

All in all we are here to have fun, make new friends and whip other clan’s little behinds. With that I finish with time to:

Game on!!!!
